Photopia Installation Support

System Requirements

It's all about speed and memory. Since Photopia is processor intensive, you'll experience best results with a fast processor. We would also recommend a dual processor machine so that you can run Photopia calcs without affecting your other software. You'll need enough memory so that the model and raytrace can be stored in memory and not paged to the hard drive. For most models, 1 GB should be sufficient. You'll also want to have a graphics card that supports OpenGL.

Windows 7 and Vista Instructions

Windows 7 and Vista contain additional user restrictions that require specific action in order for Photopia to work properly. To get your license while running Photopia under Windows 7 or Vista, find the Photopia.exe file in Windows Explorer in your C:\Program Files\LTI Optics\Photopia 3.0\Exe folder. Then right click your mouse on this file and choose "Run as Administrator" from the pop-up menu. Then choose License / Authorization from the main menu and send us the Site Codes from this screen. We will then send you the Authorization Keys that will allow access to the program. You will need to start the program in the same way when entering the keys. After the keys have been entered you can run Photopia normally using the shortcut on your Desktop.

Standalone Instructions

Photopia needs to be installed under an account with administrator privileges. Begin the installation by inserting the CD or starting the Photopia.exe or Photopia.msi file that was downloaded. Choose the option for a Standalone Individual installation. Once the installation is complete, open Photopia and select License > Authorization from the menu. Email the Site Codes to us and then enter the Authorization Keys you receive from us and hit the Submit button. With Version 2.0, if you run the installation under a different user account than your own, you'll need to run PhotopiaReg.exe (located in LTI\Photopia2\Exe folder) under your user account to setup proper permissions. For Version 3.0 Photopia will be installed for all users automatically.

Network Server Instructions

  1. Create a Share of the \LTI\Photopia2 or \Program Files\LTI Optics\Photopia 3.0\ folder on the server called Photopia2 or Photopia3. Give Full Control access to the appropriate users under both the Sharing and Security tabs.
  2. Set the client path within the Photopia Authorization dialog box. Click browse and search for Photopia.exe on the server computer, using the shared path via the network. The path should look like this: \\Servername\Photopia2\Exe\ or \\Servername\Photopia3\Exe\
  3. Open Photopia and select License > Authorization from the menu. Email the site codes to us and then enter the Authorization Keys you receive from us and hit the Submit button.
  4. The client computer will need to have read access into the registry of the serving computer. To add this permission for the user group that will be accessing Photopia follow these steps:
    1. From the server, run regedt32.exe
    2. Go to the key
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\SecurePipeServers\winreg
    3. Right click on the winreg key and choose Permissions.
    4. Add the group or users that will be accessing the software. Make sure to set their permissions as read only.

Network Client Instructions

For Version 3.0, simply rerun the Photopia.msi file and choose the Client Installation option. You'll be asked to locate Photopia.exe on the server. For Version 2.0, you can setup a client by browsing to the server and running PhotopiaReg.exe. From Windows Explorer, navigate to the server computer over your network and go into the \LTI\Photopia2\Exe shared folder on the server and run PhotopiaReg.exe by double clicking on it. PhotopiaReg.exe will ask you to locate Photopia.exe on the serving computer. Click the Browse button. Be sure that the file dialog is viewing the \LTI\Photopia2\Exe folder on the server, not a local or mapped drive. If it is not, then navigate to it. Once you are in the correct folder, then select Photopia.exe. Once finished, close PhotopiaReg. You should now have a shortcut added to your desktop to Photopia.exe on the server. Double click the shortcut and you should now have access to Photopia on this client.
